INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN

Instructional Design is the designing, developing, and delivering of instructional resources related to education and training. Those working as Instructional Designers create content in the development of learning materials. There is a focus on how students/employees will learn and achieve their learning goals, or that of the workplace. To support the learning process, Instructional Designers will customised materials and delivery methods in conjunction with client’s Training Needs Analysis (TNA).

Some of the main principles of instructional design is how learning tools should be designed, created and delivered to any organisation.  Especially for adult employees across all industry sectors. Instructional Designers consider whether the delivery method is Digital and/or Face to Face, ensuring the delivery is efficient, appealing, inspiring and engaging.

A Training Needs Analysis (TNA) is an important part of the process in determining the needs of the learner, and/or the organisation. The TNA is use to determine any skills gap between the current and desired knowledge, skills, and abilities of employees; including the management team.

There are many instructional design models, however many will utilise the ADDIE model which is an acronym for the five phases it defines for building training and performance support tools. The five phases are: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
